In South Korea, authorities intend to establish a new tax that will be imposed on crypto-assets obtained as a result of free distribution of cryptocurrencies. The innovation was initiated by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.
As indicated in the agency, they were guided by the provision on inheritance and gift taxes, which is spelled out in the legislation of the country. According to it, aidrops of tokens should also be taxed. The obligation to payment in this case lies on the recipient of the crypto-asset. Such a person within three months will have to file tax return. Then the ministry itself will assign the amount of payment to the state in the range from 10% to 50%.
The department noted that because they will not introduce a single tax scale, each unique case will be considered separately, and it will require a waste of time. At the same time, lawmakers promised, that not all airdrops would fall under the law and their participants would not have to pay tax.
Earlier, the South Korean Tax Service said that tax evasion is unacceptable, and the state intends to use all possible tools to stop the crime. The service promised to pay special attention to those who use digital assets and platforms related to them to evade taxes.
