Former soccer star Michael Owen received criticism for his NFT Legacy collection

Legendary British forward Michael Owen announced the release of his own collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT) that "don't depreciate." Many crypto-enthusiasts and soccer fans have already to criticize the former forward's initiative.

It is noted that the tokens were developed by Owen together with the technology company Oceidon. The release of the collection, called Legacy, states that the special system of token development allowed to exclude the possibility of their depreciation. Over time, they will only get more expensive, including when demand is low, Oceidon says.

After introducing the project, Owen and his partners met with a wave of criticism. Many fear the tokens will be deliberately locked in at a high rate. If there is no demand, the funds invested in NFT cannot be withdrawn, which risks freezing assets for an indefinite period of time. Soccer fans have also expressed their dissatisfaction. So, one of them claimed that Owen decided to make money by involving his fans into dubious projects, which resemble pyramid schemes.

Earlier, Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone reinforced everyone's interest in the sphere of non-fungible tokens. In the spring of this year, the NFT collection was launched on his behalf.
