Thailand will offer Russians the opportunity to pay for goods and services in cryptocurrency

The Bank of Thailand together with the Phuket Tourism Association are discussing an initiative to switch to cryptocurrency payments for Russian tourists. As emphasized in The Nation Thailand, this measure will help overcome financial difficulties arising from the sanctions imposed on Russia.

According to representatives of the association, the use of digital assets during the stay of Russians on vacation will be an emergency measure. The Russian analogue of "Mir" as well as the Chinese UnionPay network should replace Western payment systems in the first place.

It is reported that, among other things, Russian tourists, who are now in Thailand, had to face difficulties when returning home. Due to the holding of no-fly zones there were problems with air communication. Thousands of Russian citizens remain in Thailand, but the government does not plan to deport them after their visas expire, the newspaper reported with reference to the Cabinet.

Earlier, economic sanctions were imposed on Russia in connection with the military operation on the territory of Ukraine. Among other things, the largest payment networks PayPal, Visa and Mastercard stopped their work in Russia.
