Texas city is the first in the U.S. to start mining bitcoin

The first American city to launch official bitcoin mining was Fort Worth, located in the state of Texas. The project was initiated by the young mayor Mattie Parker, who ordered to place mining farms in the IT department of the city administration.

According to Parker, due to the large amount of electricity consumed and the need to constantly maintain the equipment, the project is still at a very early stage of development. The mayor is sure that the city will not receive tangible income, but there is a possibility to compensate the cost of electricity used. The main goal of such project is not to make money, but to improve the image of the city, Parker said.

Matty Parker has been mayor of Fort Worth for about a year. During that time, she has had time to learn a lot about bitcoin from people she knows who are directly involved in investing. According to them, almost all the money from private funds today goes into the development of technology, including digital currencies.

It's noted that the pilot project will last six months, after which Fort Worth officials will discuss whether to extension or curtailment of the initiative. In case the outcome is positive, the mayor's office plans to increase the production volumes by building a large farm.
