Former CIA official Snowden speaks out about cryptocurrencies

Former U.S. intelligence officer Edward Snowden revealed his attitude to cryptocurrencies. During his speech at the Consensus 2022 conference, he said that he did not see any potential in digital assets to save and accumulate money, but they were great for paying for various goods and services.

Snowden pointed out that he differs from most supporters of the cryptocurrency industry because of his views. He said he began using digital currencies for anonymous payments back in 2013. Since then, he has never encouraged people to invest in cryptocurrency, but he has repeatedly talked about the possibility of using virtual assets to make payments.

At the same time, he opposes skeptical experts expressing distrust of cryptocurrencies. Snowden pointed out that those who have petitioned the White House to ban digital assets are projecting a mistaken view of the industry and using previously refuted arguments.

Touching on Internet privacy, the former U.S. intelligence analyst said that he sees significant progress in this area. Despite this, the problem with metadata security is still relevant, the expert concluded.
