A precedent of sexual harassment in the metaverse was heard the day before in a district court in the South Korean city of Yeijongbu. A 30-year-old man, who had been committing abuse against teenagers for a long time, was in the dock.

The court found that over a period of about four months the Korean actively initiated correspondence with minors in the metaverse. He managed to earn the trust of interlocutors, as the man introduced himself as their peer while communicating. Later, the offender began to turn to obscene topics and asked the victims to send him personal photos of erotic content.

The district court ruled that the man committed a very serious crime. Nevertheless, several circumstances forced the judges to go for leniency. Law enforcers took into account that the defendant fully admitted his guilt. In addition, the fact that the photos were not used to make money and were not sent to other people did not go unnoticed.

The final sentence was four years in prison, as well as compulsory treatment for sexual abuse. In the future, the man will not be able to work with minors and people with disabilities for seven years.
