Bill Murray lost 119 ETH in a hacker attack

Popular Hollywood actor Bill Murray lost $185,000 in ETH as a result of a hacking attack. The assets were stolen from the artist's cryptocurrency wallet immediately after the end of a charity auction he organized. Specialists involved in supporting the event reconstructed the course of events.

A unique NFT "Beer with Bill Murray" from the actor's personal collection became available for purchase in the last days of August. It was purchased in an auction for $185,000 or 119 ETH, and the money went into Murray's registered OpenSea wallet. Just a couple of hours after the auction closed, the artist's personal account was hacked.

The attacker stole all of the ETH raised at the auction, but he didn't stop there. The hacker tried to steal an additional 800 cryptocurrency units stored in the same wallet, as well as CryptoPunks, Pudgy Penguin and other collectible tokens owned by Murray. It was only thanks to the swift intervention of security that the assets were moved to a secure location and kept in Murray's possession.

The investigation has not yet been able to say how the perpetrator gained access to the assets of the famous actor. The team Murray has already filed a lawsuit with the police in hopes of recovering the artist's stolen funds.
