The miscalculation was made when estimating the market quotation of Georgian lari. Instead of $2.90 per unit the platform gave the clients an opportunity to withdraw means at a rate of $290.

As stated by the exchange representatives, the mistake is purely technical and Coinbase employees are not to blame for it. The platform missed a decimal point, which led to a hundredfold increase in amounts withdrawn by customers. Despite the prompt correction of the error, it had time to use about a thousand users. Journalists have already talked to some of them.

According to the lucky ones, they did manage to close deals at Coinbase and withdraw large sums to their accounts. First of all, this money was sent to other accounts and cashed out, people admitted.

Georgia's cryptocurrency community believes the exchange may have lost up to $140 million due to the malfunctions. The platform itself disagrees with this information and claims that an insignificant part of funds was withdrawn by a relatively small number of users.
