Nike sues retailer for selling sneakers as NFT

The world-famous clothing and footwear manufacturer Nike filed a lawsuit demanding to understand the situation in which the online store StockX allows itself to sell NFT with the image of Nike sneakers without permission. The company's lawsuit will be heard in the Southern District of New York.

The essence of the complaint of the company is that the online retailer has intentionally allowed the use of another's trademark than misled consumers. The manufacturer reported that StockX began distributing NFT with the image of Nike sneakers under the pretext that in the near future customers will be able to get the actual model of sports shoes.

From the position of Nike management, the settlement of the situation involves the compensation of damages and the imposition of a ban on the distribution of digital assets. According to the company, since January the online store has managed to sell more than 500 units of NFT branded Nike.

Buyers of NFT, according to the plaintiff, began to express dissatisfaction with the high cost of the assets and the ambiguous conditions of their ownership. In addition, people had doubts about the legality of the scheme proposed by StockX. In conclusion, the suit states that because of the actions of the retailer company had to endure serious reputational costs.
